Chamber & all Businesses in town encouraged to Use Cloth Bags
The realization that plastic bags flying around our community and ending up in our landfills is a great concern and we hope to reduce the use of plastic bags in Carstairs.

Sturdy cloth bags, especially those made with organically grown, sustainable plant fibers, make the best shopping bags.

Getting Involved
We began by selecting an Advisory Committee, a group of engaged citizens who would give vision and perspective to the Carstairs Sustainability Plan. The Sustainability Steering Committee consists of:
  • Lynette Lefsrud
  • Murray Pound
  • Bob Clark
  • Darryl Herman
  • Ray Cairns
  • Al Molnar
  • Anne Strilchuk
  • Nellie Trottier
  • Natasha Fisher
  • Amelia Naismith
  • Martin Ratz
  • Stephen Stiles

Led by Jan Thompson, Sustainability Coordinator for the Town of Carstairs, this group of Carstairs residents are eager to proceed.

In addition, Town Council, the Steering Committee and Town Staff will have the opportunity to take The Natural Step training to become conversant in the concepts and principles of sustainable municipal planning.

By making simple decisions in your home, you can help Alberta, and Carstairs, take the lead and guide Canada into a sustainable future. Many Albertans are striving to make sure we’re not leaving a mess for our children and grandchildren to clean up. Abertans want to make sure we’re able to meet our needs today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We’re striving for sustainability. By taking a few minutes to read this booklet you will learn about simple decisions and different options that will help you save money, improve your health and reap many other benefits of sustainability.

We are always looking for input from the community. If you have any questions or ideas for our growing community, contact Janice Thompson, Sustainability Coordinator for the Town of Carstairs at 403-337-3341.
